The Puy de Dôme is a historic hot spot, with many magnificent châteaux to visit (Chazeron, Chateaugay, Veygoux, Tournoël, Dauphin, Blot Rocher, Murol).
The towns of Riom and Clermont-Ferrand are full of museums and old stones to discover as you stroll through the narrow streets. Don’t miss the Michelin Museum.
When it comes to geology, it’s paradise! The Grotte de Pierre in Volvic, the Vulcania theme park, the open-air volcano of Lemptégy, the Gour de Tazenat, the petrifying fountains of St Nectaire, the panoramic train of the Puy de Dôme, as well as the 80 surrounding volcanoes of the chaine des puys of the Parc naturel régional des volcans d’Auvergne. The region’s waters are also renowned: Volvic with its springs (visit the Rosana factory).
Châtel-Guyon, like all spa towns, has a casino and a lovely theater with a bill worthy of a Parisian theater.
The magnificent roads of theAuvergne are a treat for motorcyclists.
To recover from all these activities, enjoy typical Auvergne dishes such as truffade, potato pâté, potée, omelette aux herbes, charcuterie and countless delicious cheeses (Cantal, St Nectaire, Gaperon, Bleu d’Auvergne). All washed down with a good Auvergne wine (in moderation).
